For those of you that aren’t aware, Tokyo Disney is commonly thought of as the “best” Disney resort in the world. I haven’t been myself, but every time I read trip reports I start giving my credit cards a look. Nearly everything they touch there turns to gold, so this announcement has piqued everyone’s interest.
Rumors have been circulating for the past few months that Tokyo was going to get a third park called “Tokyo DisneySky”. While the rumors of an expansion were true, it looks like plans for a third park fell through, as this is an expansion of an existing park in Tokyo.
The new land coming to Tokyo DisneySea will be “themed to magical springs that lead to a world of Disney fantasy and will include four new attractions”. For a park that is designed around the sea, portals that lead you to three lands that have little do with the sea sounds a like a little bit of a stretch to my ears. Of course, those three lands are themed to three extremely popular properties; Peter Pan, Tangled, and Frozen. There are other properties that would make more thematic sense, but it’s hard to argue that those properties would make nearly the same amount as FROZEN.
While these stories might not fit in that well at DisneySEA, it’s nice to see numerous attractions being added to the park. Although, I would be curious to hear a Tokyo locals take on it. I’m just an Orlando local that has lost a bit of hope in cohesive themes for parks.
There was also a new deluxe resort hotel announced, themed to the vague description of “Disney fantasy”. While I haven’t been, pictures of Tokyo Disneys other deluxe hotel Tokyo DisneySea Hotel Miracosta look absolutely jaw dropping.
I guess I should start putting pennies away to make a trip in 2022.
