We’re so excited to share this news with you! The all-new Play Disney Parks mobile app will make its official debut at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort on June 30. The app will be free to download, and guests can pre-order today on the App Store and Google Play to be among the first to have the app automatically downloaded on their device.
With the recent launch of Pixar Pier last week, and the grand opening of Toy Story Land in a few days, Disney really picked a good time to launch this app.
Lines have seemingly never been longer at Walt Disney World, and even worse, everyone is glued to their phone. On the surface it looks like this app just makes that situation worse, but it appears that they’re making an effort to have families play the games together. Which is a much more desirable outcome over guests getting sucked into instagram. It’s great for guest satisfaction AND engagement.
I’m really excited to see how this app will physically interact with the queues. They’re making it sound like you will be able to influence the queue in some way. It all seems pretty basic now, but it doesn’t take a lot to imagine the possibilities that this opens up.
On this weeks Disney Dish show (which I strongly recommend), Jim & Len were discussing how Imagineering has a goal to eventually have guests skip the line if they do well with the games.
From an Apple nerd perspective, I’m also excited to see Disney utilize some new iOS features. For starters, you can pre order the app (for free) so that it automatically downloads to your phone on Saturday. Even more exciting, they’re integrating free Apple music playlists directly into the app. If you’re an Apple music subscriber, you get to add those playlists to your account. Simply awesome.
